Family: Papaveraceae
Plant Classification: Hardy perennial
Minimum Height: 45 cm
Maximum Height: 60 cm

A choice and extremely desirable perennial poppy with golden-haired rosettes of leaves with many stems carrying wide, nodding, open globes of bright yellow in the leaf axils. Very rarely offered, famous gardener Graham Stuart Thomas sums it up thus, “superbly beautiful”.

Sowing advice:
Seeds can be sown at any time, but for a full season of growth are best sown in trays in early spring. Cover seeds thinly in a cool spot, artificial heat is rarely needed as this can cause rapid germination and fungal attack. Seedlings usually appear within 3 to 6 weeks but can take much longer. Pot on into small pots and protect from hot sun. Plant out into a shaded, moist, peaty or organic soil. Many are herbaceous, dying down to a large, resting, winter bud.

Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame, preferably as soon as ripe or in spring. Use soilless seed starting mix, sow thinly and keep moist. Light is needed for germination. Keep fall-sown seedlings in a cold greenhouse or cold frame the first winter. Grow in humusy, moist but well-drained soil in part-shade with shelter from drying winds.
