Bright golden yellow cup-shaped flowers open on this dwarf shrub, and later mature into 12-15cm long black pods. It is found in coastal districts and the adjacent tablelands of New South Wales from the Illawarra to Queensland, on the edges of subtropical and dry rainforest, where it is now very rare in the wild. It is a special plant because not only do two species of butterflies breed on it, the Small Grass-yellow (Eurema Smilax) and the Yellow Migrant (Catopsilia Gorgophone) but it is also very bee friendly.
Sowing advice:
These seeds have already been thoroughly cleaned and cold-stored for several months. They should be sown into a well-drained, sandy compost at any time of the year, and covered thinly with sand or grit and kept moist. Keep at between 15 and 20 degrees C. Germination usually occurs within 4 to 6 weeks although some seeds may take much longer.
Distribution and Habitat:
Senna acclinis is found in near-coastal areas of New South Wales and Queensland, growing in or on the edges of subtropical and dry rainforests. The plant is distributed in several subregions, including Barrington, Karuah Manning, Mummel Escarpment, Wyong, and Yengro.
