It is a visual delight on sunny days …

Family: Liliaceae
Plant Classification: Hardy bulb
Minimum Height: 30 cm
Maximum Height: 70 cm

A haze of starry, pure white lily flowers, with prominent yellow anthers, opens from June through August, over tidy, firm, basal foliage that is handsome in its own right. This species is widespread in Central Asia and Russia. It is a visual delight on sunny days when the reflexed white flowers open fully.

Sowing advice:
Sow seeds at any time covering them with compost or grit 5mm deep, keeping the seed pot in a cool, well-lit spot outdoors. Artificial heat is not needed and can prevent germination so be very patient as many species will only germinate in the spring after chilling or freezing in the moist seed tray in the winter. Grow on individual seedlings in small pots until of sufficient size to be potted on or planted out into the open ground.

Habitat:
These plants grow in sunny areas and calcareous soils, on semiarid grasslands, slopes and forest edges. In the Alps they can be found at an altitude of 0–1,600 metres (0–5,249 ft) above sea level.
